Sergeant Chris Karakostas has been a law enforcement officer for the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) for 28 years. For the last 14 years, he has been assigned as an Investigator in the Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit. Throughout his time at MPD, Sergeant Karakostas has been drawn to the challenges of cold cases. With no formalized cold case unit, Sergeant Karakostas applied his knowledge and skills from investigating homicides towards cold case investigations. He sought and obtained support from FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit and local FBI field office which resulted in the 2015 formation of a cold case task force partnership between MPD and the Minneapolis FBI. Throughout his cold case investigations, Sergeant Karakostas developed a user-friendly and team-building approach to successfully investigating and prosecuting these challenging cases.
Richard Danila has a Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota. Richard has worked at the Minnesota Department of Health in infectious disease epidemiology for 35 years and is currently the Deputy State Epidemiologist.
